The trek is challenging and requires technical mountaineering skills. We follow the Baltoro glacier to Concordia and K2 Base Camp and then cross the Gondogoro La pass, which is 5,560 meters high. This is one of the world's great treks with breathtaking scenery. Before crossing this pass, you should ensure you are well-prepared and know what to expect.
The second-highest mountain in the world is Mount K2, which is 8,611 meters high. As you walk up the Baltoro glacier, you can see beautiful mountain views all the way to Concordia. We will see many things on our walk, such as the Masherbrum, K2, Broad Peak, the Trango Towers, and the Muztagh Tower. Galen Rowell described Concordia in his book as the "Throne Room of the Mountain Gods." We will camp at Concordia and enjoy the unique view of the 7,000- and 8,000-meter mountains and the highest peak, K2. You will cross massive glaciers, meet famous climbers worldwide, and see FOUR 8000-meter peaks, including K2, the world's second-highest mountain.
The trip starts with a flight from Islamabad to Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan. The plane offers a great view of the Karakoram, including Nanga Parbat. We stay in Skardu for a few nights and then take a jeep to Askoli, where the trek starts.
From Concordia, we start the challenging trek out over Gondogoro La. Locals from Hushe set ropes on the up-and-down routes. The Gondogoro La pass is one of the highlights of the trek. It is 5,560 meters (18,241 feet) high and needs ropes and other technical gear to ensure it is safe to cross. From the top, you can see breathtaking mountains. On the Hushe side, we can see Leila peak. On the other side, we see many peaks of the high Karakoram, including K2, Broad Peak, Masherbrum 1, and Masherbrum 2. Trekkers who participate in this adventure are required to steep and icy terrain, which presents both a physical and mental challenge.
